On July 12, 2012, just before 9pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP executed a CDSA (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act) search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of 2nd Street Northwest in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Police say that a marijuana grow operation and approximately 50 grams of marijuana were located and seized from the residence.
RCMP report that 46-year-old Kelly Grant Ward of Portage La Prairie, has been charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Ward has been served a summons to appear in court in Provincial Court on September 10, 2012.
Police continue to investigate this incident.
RCMP would like to remind the public that drug use and drug production not only affects individuals, it affects families, friends and communities as a whole. The economic impact if drug production and drug use is very high. There is also a great impact to the Justice System as well as the Health Care System. Drugs impact all areas of society. Putting a stop to this type of activity has been, and is a joint effort between police and community members.
