Just after 2:30am, on July 29, 2012, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a robbery at Mac’s Convenience Store located on Saskatchewan Avenue in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Investigation revealed that a lone male entered the store, went behind the counter and demanded the clerk give him the money. A physical confrontation occurred. The suspect assaulted the clerk, stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the building.
Portage la Prairie EMS attended and treated the clerk for what was reported to be non life threatening injuries.
The suspect was described as being male, native in appearance, approximately 5’6″ tall, stocky build with brown hair and brown eyes. Police were unable to locate the suspect.

Through further investigation by Portage la Prairie RCMP and Portage la Prairie General Investigation Section, police were able to identify a suspect and on July 30, 2012, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
On July 31, the suspect, Leonard Klyne of Winnipeg, turned himself in to the RCMP in Portage la Prairie.
Leonard Klyne has since been charged with robbery and uttering threats and has been held in custody. Klyne is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on August 2, 2012.
