RCMP, in collaboration with the Transportation Safety Board, are investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred near Manitou yesterday evening.
At approximately 8pm on August 22, 2012, Manitou RCMP Detachment along with local area Fire and EMS responded to a plane crash that occurred approximately one mile north of Manitou.
Police say that the pilot, a 64-year-old man, along with the only passenger, a 38-year-old man, both from Winnipeg, perished in the plane crash.
It has been determined that the pilot took off from the Manitou Airport, turned back to the airport, however, for reasons that remain under investigation, lost control of the Red Acro II aircraft and crashed in a lagoon just north of the Manitou airport.
Civilians who saw the crash, attempted to help the occupants until police and EMS arrived to no avail.
The investigation continues.
