On September 21, 2012, at about 8:30pm, Little Grand Rapids RCMP were advised that a boat with two adult males had been in distress on Fishing Lake.
Initial reports indicate that between 4pm and 5pm the boat motor had stalled. The weather was reported to be very poor, with high winds, large waves and reduced visibility.
Both men fell out of the boat, only one was able to get back in. The survivor was eventually able to re-start the motor and go for help. Neither men were reported to be wearing life jackets.
A search was initiated without success. Just after 10am on September 22, it was reported that local area searchers had located the body of the missing boater.
The deceased has been identified as a 52 year-old-man from Pauingassi First Nation. The second boater, a 19-year-old man from Pauingassi First Nation, was treated for exposure at the nursing station. There were no other persons involved.
Police continue to investigate.
