RCMP have made arrests and charged two Black River First Nation residents in connection with a recent murder investigation.
On January 1, 2013, Powerview RCMP Detachment responded to a residence on Black River First Nation where a deceased adult male was found. Police treated the incident as a homicide. Officers have since learned that a confrontation at the residence ended with the victim being stabbed.
RCMP investigation has now led to 20-year-old Jason Moar and 21-year-old Brandon Bird being charged with 2nd degree murder.
Police say that an autopsy on the victim, identified as 25-year-old Peter Richard Bird of Black River First Nation, showed the cause of death to be attributed to a stab wound.
Police say that the victim and both accused were known to each other.
