The Honourable Vic Toews, MP for Provencher, issued a statement today in regards to the investment from Itochu Corporation of Japan in La Broquerie’s HyLife Foods Ltd.
“I was very pleased to hear of the strategic investment from Itochu Corporation of Japan in La Broquerie’s HyLife Foods Ltd.
The livestock industry plays a major role in our local and national economy and HyLife has been a major contributor to the growth and development of rural communities across Provencher, as well as many other areas of southern Manitoba.
Manitoba’s pork industry contributes more than $750 million annually to the provincial economy and provides more than 13,000 jobs for Manitobans.
The Harper Government has been proud to support the hog industry and companies such as HyLife with investments in critical infrastructure. On July 13, 2011, our government announced a $10 million repayable loan to HyLife, through the Slaughter Improvement Fund, to assist the company with expansion and upgrades to their facility in Neepawa. These upgrades helped support the Manitoba hog industry at a critical period, and the benefits of this investment continue to be felt throughout Manitoba.
This new investment by Itochu, a leader in global investments, will create further opportunities for HyLife and has the potential for future job growth in rural Manitoba. It also better positions the company in the globally competitive pork industry.”
