A Winnipeg police officer is facing assault charges in a domestic dispute incident that occurred this past week.

On January 7, 2013, shortly before 12pm, an RCMP Detachment in the East District was contacted by the spouse of a Winnipeg police service officer to report a disturbance at their residence. RCMP members were also advised that she had allegedly been assaulted the night before.

RCMP attended the residence resulting in the arrest of a 44-year-old male officer of the Winnipeg Police Service allegedly involved. The officer was released on a promise to appear with conditions. On January 16, 2013, he was charged with assault.

Police say that the officer was off-duty at the time of the incident and that the victim did not require any medical treatment. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in February, 2013.
