Steinbach RCMP are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a semi-trailer early in the morning of January 23, 2013, near Richer, Manitoba.

RCMP report that the deceased has been identified as a 42-year-old man from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Initial investigation and witness reports indicate the man had walked in front of a moving eastbound semi-trailer in an apparent attempt to flag down the driver when he was struck. The man was then transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police say that the 66-year-old male driver of the semi-trailer was not injured in this incident.

RCMP also report that a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck, that had been stolen from a nearby residence, was located stuck in the ditch at the scene. It is believed at this time that the two incidents are related.

No charges are being contemplated at this time.
