On January 25, 2013, just after 11pm, St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal two-vehicle collision on St. Mary’s Road, about 2.5 km south of the Red River Floodway.
Investigation indicates that earlier in the evening a vehicle had gone off the roadway. Two adult males returned to the location with a pick-up truck to attempt to pull the car out of the ditch. While working beside the road, the men and the pick-up truck were struck by a southbound 2002 Oldsmobile Alero.
Police say that both men were transported to hospital with serious injuries. One of the men, a 51-year-old from the RM of Richot, died at hospital. The second man, a 23-year-old from the RM of Richot, remains in hospital with serious, undetermined injuries.
RCMP report that there were two male occupants in the Oldsmobile, ages 19 and 18. The two occupants were not injured and there were no other persons involved.
Road conditions were reported as icy and snow covered at the time of the incident.
Alcohol is not considered a factor at this time in this ongoing investigation.
