The RCMP Drug Section, along with over 140 police officers, made numerous arrests and conducted searches as part of a long-term investigation known as Project DILEMMA.
Project DILEMMA was initiated in August 2012 and focused on the criminal activities of the Rock Machine Motorcycle Club and high-level drug trafficking cells operating in the province of Manitoba.
Numerous search and arrest warrants have been executed and 11 people in the Winnipeg area have been charged with a variety of offences associated to drug trafficking, firearms trafficking, proceeds of crime, and criminal organization related offences. Those charged include members and associates of the Rock Machine Motorcycle Club and independent drug traffickers.
During the investigation, police made several drug seizures including 13 pounds of cocaine and 1,800 tablets of Benzylpiperazine (BZP – an illicit synthetic drug similar to ecstasy). Two firearms, ammunition, and a commercial explosive device were also seized.
During yesterday’s take-down, police seized four firearms, ammunition, two pipe bombs and eight other commercial explosive devices, a significant amount of cash, an estimated three pounds of cocaine and approximately eight pounds of marijuana, a 2009 Audi S5, as well as Rock Machine Motorcycle Club-related clothing and paraphernalia.
“We will continue to combat organized crime and its involvement in the drug trade at every level,” said Assistant Commissioner Kevin Brosseau, Commanding Officer of RCMP “D” Division. “As part of our crime reduction strategy, the RCMP will continue to fight criminal networks with an integrated strategy that includes cooperation between police services, provincial and federal agencies and public safety organizations.”
While Project DILEMMA was led by the RCMP, a number of agencies assisted during the course of this investigation which ensured an integrated approach to this enforcement effort. These agencies included the Winnipeg Police Service, Manitoba Justice and Public Prosecution Service of Canada.
