On February 13, 2013, just after 4pm, Thompson RCMP and local emergency services were dispatched to a complaint of a collision on Highway 280, approximately 80 km north of Thompson.

Witness reports indicate that a 2004 Dodge pick-up truck was traveling southbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle and went into oncoming traffic, colliding with a northbound 2012 Ford pick-up truck. The front of the Ford collided with the passenger side of the Dodge.

RCMP report that the driver of the Dodge, a 33-year-old woman from Gillam, was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries. She was the only occupant in this vehicle. The driver of the Ford, a 62-year-old man from Split Lake, as well as a 5-year-old male and a 58-year-old woman, were transported to hospital for treatment of undetermined injuries. The woman was later pronounced deceased. No other occupants were reported in the vehicle.

Road conditions were reported to be slippery at the time of the collision.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the ongoing investigation.
