The Honourable Vic Toews, Regional Minister for Manitoba and MP for Provencher, issued a statement regarding the recent Manitoba Court of Appeal decision on the sentence of convicted sex-offender Graham James.
“Today’s court decision recognizes the serious nature of the crimes that Graham James committed and the harm that he has done to his victims. While a step in the right direction, this decision will likely provide little comfort to those whom he victimized repeatedly. Our government will continue to ensure that victims’ rights, especially children, are protected.
Our government has ended the revolving door of the justice system and continue to give courts the resources they need to ensure that the most violent repeat offenders stay locked up behind bars, where they belong, for longer periods of time.
We also committed to give law enforcement the tools they need to keep our streets safe and to make our communities better places to live, work, and raise our families. We’re standing up for law-abiding Canadians and standing up for victims of crime. Our government will continue to make the safety and security of Canadians one of our top priorities.”
