MP Vic Toews has announced support for the Parc Sir Georges-Étienne Cartier Park under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF). The statement made by the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher, was made on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
“Our Government is focused on what matters to Canadians – creating jobs and growth,” said Minister Toews. “By investing in projects like Parc Sir Georges-Étienne Cartier Park, our Government continues to support communities across the country while leaving a lasting legacy of improved local infrastructure.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $7,395 will allow the Sainte-Agathe Community Development Inc. to renovate the park’s washrooms. These improvements will extend the life span of the park and provide a better and more comfortable experience for residents and visitors.
“We greatly appreciate the Government of Canada funding for the renovations to Parc Sir Georges-Étienne Cartier Park,” said Jacques Courcelles, President, Sainte-Agathe Community Development Corporation. “The purpose of the CDC is to develop local economies that in turn create opportunities to enhance the quality of life for our residents and visitors.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
