The Provencher Conservative Electoral District Association held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday March 16, 2013 at Smitty’s Restaurant in Steinbach.
Approximately 40 members of the local association met to discuss the past year. Provencher Conservative Member of Parliament, Vic Toews, touched on several subjects during his speech to the attendees. Below is a brief summary of his comments.
“The state of the economy is the priority of Canadians and that makes it our government’s priority as well. With the support of the Harper Government’s Economic Action Plan, Canada is doing well. Over 950,000 net new jobs have been created in Canada since the depth of the global recession. This is the best job growth record among all G-7 countries in recent years.”
“Our Conservative Government has cut taxes over 140 times. These include cuts to income taxes, business taxes and the GST. As a result of these actions, the average Canadian family is now saving over $3,100 a year.”
“At the same time, we won’t forget our other priorities. We will continue to support families, building on past measures such as the Universal Child Care Benefit, which provides $1,200 a year for each child under six and gives parents greater choice in child care. We’re keeping taxes low, including measures like the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit and the Children’s Arts Tax Credit – measures that help many parents enrol their kids in the activities that can be so beneficial to their health and their creativity.”
“We will continue working to keep our streets and communities safe. We’ve delivered on many of our promises on this front, enacting over 30 new measures. We’ve toughened sentences for sexual offences against children, cracked down on gun crime and acted to make sure victims of crime have a voice.”
“In February of last year I had the pleasure of standing up to vote for Bill C-19, the Ending the Long-Gun Registry Act. Ending the long-gun registry was a long-time priority for our Government and it was a very proud day for our government as we were able to fulfill the promise we made to Canadians to eliminate the long-gun registry once and for all.”
Minister Toews concluded the event with a discussion on the recent boundary changes to Provencher under riding redistribution and thanked everyone in attendance for their continuing commitment and loyalty to the Conservative Party of Canada.
