Officials with La Broquerie, Manitoba based Hytek Limited are applauding the cooperative approach taken by the town of Neepawa and the federal and provincial governments in the development of a new wastewater treatment facility for the Springhill Farms pork processing plant in Neepawa.
A recently finalized agreement between Springhill Farms and the town of Neepawa will allow upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant that processes effluent from the company’s Neepawa pork processing plant to move forward.
The upgrades, which are underway now and will be completed in early April 2010, will allow Springhill Farms to increase its annual pork processing capacity from approximately 900 thousand hogs per year to the facility’s full license capacity of 1.4 million hogs per year.
Denis Vielfaure, the executive vice president of projects and environmental affairs with Hytek, applauds the cooperative approach taken to move the project forward.
This has been a little bit of a unique project where it’s a publicly funded project.
The government has helped out federally and provincially in funding this project and the town of Neepawa is also very involved in this project so it’s been very much a collective effort and it’s been a very productive collaborative effort between Springhill and the town of Neepawa to develop this new project.
It’s a substantial project.
It’s a public number, we’re right around 23.9 million dollars is what the project is going to cost and it’s been a great working relationship with the town of Neepawa and the government.
Vielfaure points out the state of the art wastewater treatment plant will be able to process all of the effluent for the full licensed capacity of the processing plant in a manner that will meet or exceed new provincial standards for wastewater treatment.
