David Richert earns a spot in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup.

After beating 3,900 other race car drivers to once again earn a spot in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup, Winnipegger David Richert is set to leave for the first race weekend of the season.  Rounds 1 & 2 will take place at Virginia International Raceway from April 24-26.

As one of only three Canadians to be selected by the world’s 3rd largest auto manufacturer, Richert is ready to get his second season in the series underway.

“Last year was a great step forward for my career” states Richert “I was able to show everyone I had the ability to be successful on the track, but more importantly, was able to show them that my supporters and I were the best off the track by winning a huge media based contest.  It is a massive testament to the people here in Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba.  It is that support which will ultimately allow us to compete in major events like the Indianapolis 500”.

Racing for Clean Water

David Richert Racing has partnered with Samaritan’s Purse, an international charitable organization.  For every minute that David Richert is racing on track, funds will be donated to building BioSand Water Filter units in parts of the world where the inhabitants do not have access to clean water.  By the first race through Richert’s donation, but mainly the help of many other individuals, David Richert Racing expects to raise $20 for every minute completed in a race.  Meaning, if Richert can complete the entire race distances in Virginia, $1,200 will be raised allowing almost 100 people to receive access to clean water for their daily needs.

Manitoba versus the World

Adding to the support from the community are many local companies who are partnering with David Richert this season.  From Rainbow Trailers, based in Cartwright; to Wallace & Wallace Fences, Winnipeg Free Press and Onext Media based in Winnipeg; to Sunrize Group and Creative PrintAll based in the south-eastern region of the province, it truly is a local partnership that is setting out to take on the world of professional auto racing.
