Between April 4 and 6, the RCMP D Division Action Response Team (DART) was deployed in the RCMP East District, where several RCMP officers focused on traffic enforcement in high-traffic areas and known trouble spots. Keeping roadways safe for all Manitobans is a high priority for the RCMP D Division.
During the three-day blitz, DART members targeted traffic violators in the Stonewall, Lundar and St. Pierre Jolys Detachment areas, including the RM of Tache, Lorette and Ile-des-Chenes, with additional roving enforcement on highways 6 and 7, 59, 210, 207, 206, and 205.
More than 150 vehicles were checked resulting in 100 traffic offences, two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act seizures and two Liquor Control Act seizures.
Overall, about 65 per cent of the traffic tickets issued related to speed.
Speed continues to be the leading cause in collisions. Between 2007 and 2012, speeding alone, or in combination with other factors, accounted for more than forty-five per cent of fatal crashes in RCMP jurisdiction.
It comes down to simple physics, the faster you drive:
- the less reaction time you have to brake
- the more distance you need to stop
- the harder it is to control your vehicle
- the harder your impact in a collision
- the greater the chance of serious injuries or death in a collision.
Please reduce your speed.
The D Division Action Response Team (DART) is a crime reduction strategy that involves leveraging RCMP resources to address specific emerging public safety issues.
