Due to overland flooding, which is now affecting some areas of the province, Manitoba Public Insurance is encouraging vehicle owners to protect their vehicles.

MPI reminds the public to not leave vehicles, including snowmobiles, recreational vehicles and motorcycles, where flood waters may overtake them. Move your vehicles to high ground.

Flood waters can quickly wash out roads and bridges. Take care and avoid driving in flooded areas. As a precaution, contact the local RCMP regarding road closures or call 511, or visit www.mb511.ca

When driving, be careful on soft road surfaces, such as shoulders, as they may cause a loss of control of the vehicle.

If you must travel on water-covered roads, use extreme caution. Large potholes are often concealed beneath the surface and can cause extensive damage. In flood conditions, your tires have limited traction and the control of your vehicle is very limited. Remember – if in doubt, don’t drive ahead!

For added convenience, Manitobans may want to speak to their Autopac agent about automated payment plans, or set up a bill payment option online with their financial institution.

Please note – In the event of a flood, you are still responsible for renewing your driver’s licence and vehicle registration(s) and making your payments on time. Renew early and ensure that you maintain the required coverage.
