On April 22, 2009 at about 6:40 p.m., Carman Area RCMP, assisted by the Winkler and Plum Coulee Fire Departments, Boundary Trail Ambulance and the Altona Police Service, were dispatched to a two vehicle collision at the junction of Highway 201 and 306 in the RM of Rhineland.

A Dodge Durango, driven by a 21-year-old Altona woman, was eastbound on Highway 201 when the vehicle collided with a northbound Tractor-Trailer hauling potatoes on Highway 306. 

The young woman was extricated from the vehicle and has since been medivaced to the Health Sciences Centre via helicopter.  Her injuries are considered serious. The driver of the Tractor-Trailer, a 36-year-old Plum Coulee area man, was not injured.

Both Highways were closed to traffic for about 4 hours. Highway 306 was not opened until the next morning.

RCMP Carman Detachment continues their investigation assisted by the RCMP Traffic Analyst.  Alcohol is not considered a factor in this collision.
