On May 17, 2013, at about 8:45pm, Blue Hills area RCMP along with EMS and Fire responded to a two vehicle collision involving a semi hauling dry fertilizer and a pick-up truck. The location of the collision was about 5 miles north of Brandon on Highway 10.

RCMP report that the driver of the pick-up truck, a 23-year-old Brandon man, was pronounced deceased. The driver of the semi was uninjured.

Early indications are the pick-up truck was travelling south and the semi was northbound on Highway 10 when they collided head-on. After the collision a fire ignited.

Despite the fire, involving both vehicles involved, the fertilizer load remained intact and unaffected. However, due to the hazardous nature of the cargo, the area was closed to traffic.

RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of an RCMP Traffic Analyst.
