May 13-20 this year was National Road Safety Week. During these dates, Central Plains RCMP were out on the roads checking on motorists with a focus on high-risk driving behaviours.
The results of this campaign were:
- 8 impaired driving charges (6 in Portage la Prairie area, 1 in Amaranth area and 1 in Treherne area)
- 2 alcohol-related administrative suspensions
- 3 charges for failing to wear seatbelts
- 52 charges for speeding
- 1 charges for fail to stop at an intersection
- 1 charges for using a handheld electronic device while driving
- 23 other traffic-related charges
Education in safe driving practices is key to promoting safety on our road ways. Central Plains RCMP remind motorists to be vigilant of their own driving habits to do their part in keeping our roads safe.
