On May 24, 2013, shortly before 2am, Gillam RCMP were dispatched to a report of a fire at the local Legion. Police say that a shed had been broken into and cardboard set on fire. Fortunately, the fire was detected and extinguished quickly before any harm or major damage occurred.

RCMP report that about 15 minutes later, RCMP officers, local EMS and Fire Department were dispatched to a fire at a local restaurant. Police say that the porch area had been set on fire. The fire was extinguished, however, the fire caused some damage to the building.

From the evidence at the scenes, both fires were deemed arson.

Police investigation into these fires has resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old Dennis Darcy Flett of Ilford, Manitoba. Flett has been charged with: arson – disregard for human life, arson – damage to property, break and enter into a business and failing to comply with a probation order.

Dennis Flett has been remanded into custody to appear in Thompson Court on May 27, 2013.
