The City of Steinbach, together with Norseman Plastics and the local Master Composters, were pleasantly pleased at the results of this past Saturday’s compost bin sale.
The City ordered 500 compost bins and also arranged to have the Seine-Rat River Conservation District deliver an additional 200 bins for non-residents to purchase. By 1:15 pm on Saturday, all 700 bins had been sold.
“The residents of Steinbach and surrounding area have really embraced the concept of composting,” said Eldon Wallman, Solid Waste Dept. Head. “Interest has never been so high and we are thrilled to offer them these alternatives to help us divert waste from the landfill.”
The City and Master Composters will be conducting composting workshops on Friday, May 1, 7:00pm and Saturday, May 9 (Time TBA) at the Mennonite Heritage Museum in the multi-purpose room. Please call 346-6231 or e-mail areitsma@steinbach.ca to register.
