On September 29, 2013, shortly after 4:30am, Portage la Prairie, Fire and EMS were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision involving a semi and a pick-up truck on Highway 1 at Angle Road, just east of the City of Portage la Prairie.
Responders arrived on scene and found an overturned semi and a pick-up truck involved in the collision. The semi was hauling hazardous materials.
Police say that the 51-year-old semi driver and his adult male passenger, both of Calgary, Alberta, were transported to Portage District General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck, identified as an 80-year-old Portage man, was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Early police investigation shows that the driver of the pick-up truck was southbound on Angle Road, proceeded to cross Highway 1, when the eastbound semi collided with the truck.
RCMP remained on scene until the semi and its cargo was safely removed from the highway. No leak of hazardous material was detected.
