Residents of southeastern Manitoba will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to upgrade infrastructure announced today by Vic Toews, MP for Provencher and President of the Treasury Board, and Ron Lemieux, MLA for LaVerendrye and Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation.
These projects are examples of the commitment of both governments to strengthen the Manitoba economy by reducing red tape, creating jobs for Manitobans, and getting shovels in the ground sooner.
These projects will enhance local facilities and services and create local jobs, at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest.
“The Government of Canada is committed to helping communities overcome their infrastructure challenges,” said Minister Toews. “Modern and reliable infrastructure investments such as these can attract business and create jobs for today and for years to come.”
“I’m pleased to partner with both the federal and various municipal governments on the Building Canada Fund which will provide economic stimulus for our rural communities today and into the future,” said Minister Lemieux. “The approved projects will have long lasting economic benefits for these communities.”
These infrastructure projects are among 52 total projects across the province that will break ground quickly thanks to this joint federal-provincial investment. The governments of Canada and Manitoba have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Manitoba communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
The governments of Canada and Manitoba will each invest up to $10,794,843 in these projects. The municipalities will contribute the balance of the total eligible project costs.
