RCMPTalks is a new tool that RCMP are utilizing to interact with youth in Canada. RCMPTalks is a series of 4 live interactive video conferences that will take place in selected schools across Canada.
Only six different Canadian classrooms will be chosen for each session to participate in the conference. Each RCMPTalks conference will allow for students to hold a discussion via video conference and social media, and pose questions to designated guests during a 90 minute live session. Any classroom and the general public may connect to listen in on the conference.
Guests participating in the conferences can include police officers, victims and rehabilitated offenders. Each video conference is accompanied with learning activities and resources that are provided for teachers to deliver to students over a period of one to two weeks prior to the conference.
A grade 8 classroom from Ecole Arthur Meighen School has been selected to participate in the first RCMPTalks which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 19th beginning at 10:00 AM. This session will be dealing with topics on bullying and cyberbullying.
Supporting and working with youth is one of the RCMP’s strategic priorities. With this initiative, the RCMP is aiming to empower youth to take action on social issues. In forming partnerships within our communities we can work together to prevent key risk factors that can potentially result in young people becoming victims of crime or offenders.
Anyone interested in streaming in to the live conference is invited to visit the encounters website.
Central Plains RCMP is committed to forming partnerships within our communities and working with the youth to become strong leaders today and in the future.
