The producer of Manitoba’s top quality hog carcass will be named next week as part of Hog Days Brandon.
Hog Days Brandon, which takes place once every two years, will kick off next Wednesday with an exhibitors reception and will run all day Thursday.
Highlights this year will include the Pork Quality Competition, Make and Bake 2013, a presentation on Social Media and a trade show featuring hog industry displays and exhibits.
Ron Bazylo, a swine specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and a member of the Brandon Hog Days Organizing Committee, notes the Pork Quality Competition typically attracts up to 40 entries.
The Pork Quality Competition is one of the priorities of the show.
We acknowledge the top five carcasses and these will be on display throughout the show in a cooler.
We’ve got prize money for the top three and ribbons for the fourth and fifth and it’s been very successful.
Producers all the way from 200 or 300 kilometers away can enter up to two market hogs and with that they follow the guidelines that we post on the web page and these guidelines can be found on hogandpoultrydays.com.
All people have to do is Google that address and go to the Pork Quality Competition and the list of guidelines and regulations are posted.
We’d also like to mention that Brandon Hog Days donates the pork from these carcasses to the Samaritan House and Helping Hands so we also give a donation of the pork.
Bazylo points out Brandon Hog Days is open to everyone and admission is free.
