The City of Steinbach has opened one of two free public outdoor skating rinks, located next to the T.G. Smith Centre at 321 Elmdale Street.
Yesterday, eager residents strapped on their skates and tried out the newly ready ice surface. Many a game of shinny hockey is expected to be played there this winter.
The other outdoor rink, located beside the Jake Epp Library, near the Helena Loewen Garden Park, is expected to be ready in the next week. Permanent overhead lights have recently been installed for people to skate well into the evening. This rink is for pleasure skating only as no sticks or pucks are allowed.
