On January 24, 2014, at approximately 11am, Spruce Plains RCMP and Neepawa Emergency Services responded to the scene of an accident on Highway 16, approximately 13 miles east of Neepawa in the RM of Landsdowne.

Through police investigation, it was determined that an eastbound car carrying a 69-year-old man, Richard Gutowski, spun out of control and struck a westbound pickup truck carrying two passengers. Gutowski was pronounced deceased at the scene and the two people in the pickup truck are being treated for their injuries. Police had closed Highway 16 for approximately three hours during the investigation.

RCMP would like to remind the public that when temperatures are warmer, road surfaces can be very slippery and people should take extra care, especially when driving on the highway.
