On February 17, 2014, shortly before 9:30am, Lac Du Bonnet RCMP were advised of two stranded snowmobilers on George Lake, northwest of Lac Du Bonnet.

Police say that a 38-year-old male and 39-year-old female, operating a snowmobile on the remote back country lake, had become stuck in several feet of slush and were unable to free themselves. Due to hazardous conditions on the lake, Lac Du Bonnet RCMP chartered a helicopter.

RCMP along with Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship officers attended the area and rescued the pair of stranded snowmobilers without incident. The two snowmobilers were seen by EMS upon landing of the helicopter and were declared to be in good health.

RCMP would like to remind riders to always check the weather conditions before they leave and when possible, avoid crossing bodies of water. If you must cross a body of water, wear a life jacket over your outer clothing. Always be alert when riding a snowmobile. Riders never know what is around the next corner and must be ready to react to any situation they may encounter.
