On February 26, 2014, shortly before 11:30am, Headingley RCMP, along with local emergency services, responded to report of a collision involving a semi-trailer and two other vehicles on Highway 1, two miles west of Headingley.
Initial police investigation suggests that a Jeep liberty, traveling west on Highway 1, had braked suddenly, thus causing a chain reaction collision. The collision incident entailed a westbound semi-trailer rear-ending the Jeep and colliding with a westbound Dodge Caravan traveling along side the semi-trailer. The semi-trailer was hauling hogs at the time of the collision.
Police say that the lone female driver of the Dodge Caravan was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The lone male driver of the Jeep Liberty and the lone male driver of the semi-trailer were not injured. None of the animals were injured in the collision and were transferred to another truck and taken to their destination.
RCMP report that poor visibility and adverse weather conditions are considered a factor in the collision.
