Seniors in Southeastern Manitoba will soon have new opportunities to mentor younger generations, take part in additional social activities and renovate their meeting facilities, thanks to funding announced by Ted Falk, Member of Parliament for Provencher. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Alice Wong, Minister of State (Seniors). Funding is provided through the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

“Our Government recognizes the valuable contribution seniors have made to our society and the economy,” said MP Falk. “By supporting New Horizons for Seniors Program projects, we are acting to ensure that seniors maintain a good quality of life and continue to be active members of their communities.”
“We are grateful to the Government of Canada for this funding through New Horizons,” said Davidson Memorial Centre President Alice Ritchot. “These funds will be used to replace our commercial dishwasher and convection oven which will allow us to continue our weekly meal program.”
Since 2006, the New Horizons for Seniors Program has funded more than 13,000 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada.
Economic Action Plan 2014 proposes an additional $5 million per year for the New Horizons for Seniors Program to support additional projects that benefit seniors.
The following seniors groups will receive funding in 2014:
Club de l’Amitié, La Broquerie: $25,000 – The organization will install a new ceiling and lighting system in the club in order for seniors to continue to participate in activities and to socialize in a comfortable environment.
Club des Pionniers, Saint-Jean-Baptiste: $13,340 – Seniors involved will take small day trips to discover the cultural and historical treasures and share their experiences and knowledge with community members, including the younger generation.
Davidson Memorial Centre, Morris: $13,000 – The organization will replace their commercial dishwasher and convection oven to allow seniors to continue their weekly meal program.
Le Club Jovial Inc. Ste Anne: $5,000 – The organization will purchase 100 padded chairs to allow seniors to continue to offer meals, card games, Wii tournaments and other continued activities.
Le Club rendez-vous des pionniers de Sainte Agathe, Sainte Agathe: $10,658 – The organization will install a new floor in the hall and purchase a trailer to store equipment to continue to allow seniors to participate in activities such as exercise programs, meals and games.
Middlebro Community Club, Middlebro. $25,000 – The organization will replace furnace, kitchen cabinets, sinks and bathrooms to continue to allow seniors to offer congregate meal program and weekly social activities.
Paradise Village Residence Association, Ste. Anne: $8,644 – The organization will replace a treadmill, an elliptical machine and dumbbells to allow seniors to continue using their fitness facility and benefit from a physical trainer.
Paradise Village Residence Association. Ste. Anne: $7,418 – The organization will purchase a shuffleboard to allow seniors to continue their weekly shuffleboard games and support social participation.
Piney Community Centre, Piney: $1,500 – The organization will replace 2 sets of floor curling rocks to continue to allow seniors to offer their regular floor curling program.
Reynolds Senior Citizen’s Club, Hadashville: $9,030 – Seniors involved in the organization will develop and lead two barbecue events to include isolated seniors in the community and create a photo library to use as a resource for future generations.
Ritchot Senior Services, St. Adolphe: $25,000 – The organization will install a wheelchair ramp, deck, automatic door opener, new flooring and exterior siding to allow seniors to continue their exercise program and computer programs.
