On August 11, 2014, just before 10:30am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP responded to a call of a possible drowning at Lamprey Falls in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. The park is located approximately 12 kilometres northeast of Pointe du Bois.
Police say that an 82-year-old and a 50-year-old male, both from Winnipeg, went out fishing at approximately 8am. While attempting to anchor the boat, both men, who were wearing personal floatation devices, were thrown into the water. While attempting to make it to shore, the 82-year-old man stopped breathing and could not be revived.
RCMP report that an autopsy has been ordered and the investigation continues.
