The City of Steinbach has been working to extend and improve the network of recreational paths in the city this fall.
Two new pathways were developed in the west end of the city – one, an asphalt pathway along Keating drain between McKenzie Avenue and L.A. Barkman Park (0.65 km); the other, a limestone pathway through the bush adjacent to the Soccer Park (1.9 kms). Also, the pathway through L.A. Barkman Park was widened and resurfaced with asphalt.
“Projects, like these, are important for the continued growth and health of our city,” said Mayor Chris Goertzen. “Whether you are an avid runner, skateboarder, rollerblader, or a family looking to take a stroll with young kids, these pathways provide excellent opportunities for activity.”
Construction of the pathways was completed in October. There are preliminary plans to install distance markers along the Bush Farm pathway and to expand the active network in other parts of the city in 2015.
Pathways in Steinbachs west end now measure as follows:
- Total asphalt pathway (along Keating drain from McKenzie Ave. through L.A. Barkman Park and Soccer Park to PTH 52) – 2.6 kms
- Total limestone pathway (Bush Farm pathway) – 1.9 kms
- Total pathway distance in west end of Steinbach – 4.5 kms
