Local retailers joined forces this past weekend to attract shoppers for this year’s Black Friday event in Steinbach. Each retailer contributed a gift or gift card valued at $100 to give away to a lucky local shopper and Doug Moore from Steinbach was that lucky winner. Doug took home over $4,000 in gift cards and merchandise.

For the 2nd consecutive year, the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce and The Carillon coordinated a local Black Friday event. “We’re always trying to inform folks about the benefits of thinking about where their shopping dollars go, and whose economy they are helping to grow,” says Chamber Executive Director Linda Peters. “Whenever possible, we should all have a desire to grow our own local economy. We should make intentional decisions about where we spend our money. That will ensure we continue to have an ever-growing variety of products to choose from locally. And it will ensure our kids and grand kids will be able to find jobs close to home.”

“It’s great to see shoppers support local businesses, as it’s those local businesses that in turn support our charities, sports teams and cultural arts programs,” says Peters. “It’s more than just shopping locally, it’s being part of building a stronger community.”
