The City of Steinbach’s Fire Department took delivery of a new pumper truck yesterday afternoon, retiring its current truck after 25 years of service.
“The entire department is excited to take delivery of this new truck,” said Fire Chief Kelvin Toews. “It’s been about 15 years since we took delivery on our last pump and there have been a lot of advances in technology in that time. The pump will take it’s place as the first-in-pump and we will be retiring our third-in-pump which has served us well for over 25 years.”
The cost of the pumper truck came in at $565,000 and is part of the City’s Local Improvement Program, replacing one of the City’s older fire trucks. The truck has new safety features for fire fighters and foam capability.
Over the next week, operators will receive training from the manufacturer on the truck and its features. The truck is expected to go into service next week.
