On March 24, 2015, just after 10pm, Virden and Melita RCMP responded to a pig barn fire northwest of Kola, Manitoba.

When officers arrived on scene the barn was fully engulfed in flames and the RM of Wallace Fire Department was working to keep the blaze under control.
Police say that there were no human injuries and approximately 1,500 sows were lost to the fire.
RCMP report that the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
