The chairman of the Canadian Swine Health Board says the health status of the Canadian swine industry is one of its main competitive advantages and that status must be protected.
The Canadian Swine Health Board, formed to develop strategies to address new and emerging diseases, will host Canadian Swine Health Forum 2009 next month in Saskatoon.
Swine Health Board chair Florian Possberg says the forum’s goal is to bring together stakeholders to come up with a proactive approach for identifying and dealing with disease issues.
It’s really meant to kick off our program, to sort of benchmark where the state of the industry is at in terms of new and emerging diseases also sort of get a bit into the history of how circo did the damage it did and also to bring the key players together and really get the dialogue going between government agencies, private vet practitioners and producers.
One of the things that our Canadian industry has in terms of a real advantage, a competitive advantage in the global market place is our superior health status and out ability to produce hogs very efficiently because we do have this health advantage.
Canada, we can’t take that for granted.
It’s something that we have to continually monitor and work at.
We really see the Canadian Swine Health Board as bringing all the key players together that can act very productively to make sure our industry does have this competitive advantage going into the future.
Canadian Swine Health Forum 2009 is scheduled for July 7th and 8th in Saskatoon.
