The City of Steinbach wants residents to be prepared in emergency or disaster situations. The City notes that in some cases when a disaster occurs, it can take up to three days for emergency responders to reach you.

Next week is National Emergency Preparedness Week (May 3-9th) and serves as a reminder to make sure you have all the necessary items for you and your family to survive in the event of an emergency.

“Emergency preparedness is something every family should be practicing year-round,” said Denis Vassart, Emergency Planning Coordinator for City of Steinbach. “This includes things like purchasing a weather radio, planning a fire evacuation route, and packing a 72-hour emergency kit.”

Vassart points to the excellent sources of information available via the City’s website, www.steinbach.ca, as well as links to other federal emergency preparedness websites. “Citizens can not only access information and brochures that will help them prepare for different emergency situations, but they can also educate themselves on the City’s emergency plans.”
