Keystone Agricultural Producers welcomes the federal government’s announcement on its contribution to the Boundary Trails Railway Company (BTRC). This new funding along with provincial support which was announced last month will go a long way to helping producers and community partners establish a short line freight railway between Manitou and Morden.
The railway company will offer farmers freight and producer-car services and shipping options to local businesses. “Through support for the BTRC initiative, the federal and provincial governments have recognized the value of rail infrastructure preservation to our rural communities,” said Robert McLean, KAP Vice President.
Preserving the railway in the region will allow more dollars to stay in local communities.
“The BTRC will have a positive effect on the entire region as opportunities now exist for value-added industry to look at establishing businesses along the line,” said McLean.
KAP commends the producers, community leaders and business leaders who have made Boundary Trails Railway Company a reality.
