During the early morning hours of July 3, 2015, Moose Lake RCMP attended to a residence in Crossing Bay where a 62-year-old male was located, suffering from critical injuries. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment where he died a few days later.

RCMP report that 23-year-old Earl Peter Lathlin was initially charged with aggravated assault in the matter, however on July 8, 2015, he was re-arrested and charged with second degree murder.

Police say that the two men were known to each other and both are from the community of Crossing Bay, which is located approximately 700 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
