On October 9, 2015, shortly after 11pm, RCMP officers responded to reports of an impaired driver in Notre Dame, Manitoba.
Police located the suspect vehicle at a gas station in St. Claude. RCMP attempted to stop the vehicle but the suspect fled at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the suspect vehicle but ended the chase due to the excessive speed of the fleeing vehicle. The suspect vehicle was then involved in a head-on collision involving another vehicle, two miles east of St. Claude on Highway 2 in the RM of Grey.
Police say that the lone occupant of one of the vehicles, a 20-year-old female from Napinka, Manitoba, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect driver, a 27-year-old Winnipeg man, was transported by STARS air ambulance to hospital and remains in critical condition.
RCMP, along with Traffic Analysts continue to investigate.
