On October 8, 2015, around 6:30am, officers from the Shoal Lake RCMP Detachment area were called to a report of a break and enter on Lake Street in Sandy Lake, Manitoba.

Following additional calls from witnesses reporting suspicious males in the area, officers located three male subjects matching the descriptions provided by the original complainant.

Police say that two of the males have been charged with three counts each of break and enter. One of the two, a youth from the RM of Minto-Odanah, is also facing two counts for failing to comply with a sentence or court disposition. The other accused, Kole Walker Blackbird, an 18-year-old male from Keeseekoowenin, is also facing an additional charge for failing to comply with a sentence or court disposition.

“While our officers have been actively investigating the recent break and enters affecting our communities, cases like these are often solved with the assistance of the public,” said Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP. “Our residents are an extension of our eyes and ears and together with a thorough investigation, were key in successfully apprehending the individuals responsible.”

RCMP note that resources from Forensic Identification Services, Police Dog Services and Crime Analysts were also involved in this investigation and instrumental to its success.

The investigation to establish the possible involvement of the subjects in other criminal offences is ongoing. Both remain in custody.
