The board of the Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association (MWBGA) recently held its Second Annual General Meeting on February 11, 2016.
The meeting took place at the CropConnect Conference in Winnipeg where approximately 90 people attended with 63 registered producer members. The AGM provided updates on the current activities of the new organization and elected three directors to take over from the remaining three of the interim board. The three elected directors included new directors Dylan Weibe – Altona, and Justin Dutchyshen – Gilbert Plains and returning director Fred Greig – Reston. They join Robert Misko – Roblin, Dean Harder – Lowe Farm, and Drew Baker – Beausejour as the organization’s directors for the next year. In a brief board meeting following the AGM Fred Greig and Robert Misko were reappointed as chair and vice chair respectively.
The two retiring directors from this year, Ray Askin – Portage, and Grant Dyck – Niverville along with retiring board members from last year Doug Martin – Selkirk, David Rourke – Minto and previous board chair Don Dewar – Dauphin were acknowledged for their leadership and valuable contribution to the development, start-up and early operations of the new organization as inaugural directors.
“In addition to updating members on our activities, two very important resolutions were discussed and passed at the 2016 AGM,” says returning chair Fred Greig. “We were given the support of the membership to introduce a new more inclusive voting system for the next AGM and the support to make the necessary regulatory changes to assume the authority and the responsibility of the western Canadian deduction as of July 31, 2017. Each of those decisions strengthen our ability to serve Manitoba producers more effectively.”
