On Friday, April 8, 2016 from 8pm to 11pm, the Manitoba RCMP will be tweeting emergency calls received by its Operational Communications Centre (OCC).
Police say that when the public needs the assistance of the RCMP in Manitoba, the trained telecom operators of the OCC are often their first point of contact. In many instances, the calls for police assistance can be difficult, during any given shift, OCC telecom operators may be required to deal with calls of violence, domestic abuse or self-harm. Throughout every call, they must remain calm, provide guidance to the caller and gather the right information to ensure police resources are rapidly deployed.
RCMP note that the goal of the evening is to show Manitobans, through tweets, video and pictures, a behind the scenes look at the RCMP’s OCC. Questions from the public will also be welcomed and answered throughout the evening. Follow the Twitter account @rcmpmb and the hashtag #rcmpmbLIVE to keep up with all of the action.
For officer safety and to respect the privacy of the callers, only general locations will be used.
