Steinbach MLA, Kelvin Goertzen, is contacting both the Highway Traffic Board and the Minister of Infrastructure regarding possible changes to the corner of #311 and #206, the site of several accidents both recently and over the years, but is also urging local motorists to be careful and adhere to the cautions and rules already in place at the intersection.
“With the construction being done on the Trans-Canada highway there may be increased traffic on the 311 and surrounding roads,” said Goertzen. “The corner of #311 and #206 has had a number of safety features added to it over the years to warn drivers to slow down or stop. But they are only effective if drivers adhere to them and I urge all drivers in our area to think about their own safety and that of other drivers when passing through this intersection and driving on all our roads.”
Goertzen said he is contacting the Highway Traffic Board and the Department of Infrastructure regarding possible short-term and longer-term changes to the intersection.
“I believe the #311 should be upgraded regardless and those upgrades could include changes to the intersection. But that is a longer term solution so I have also asked for any short-term changes that might improve it’s safety,” said Goertzen. “However, changes don’t happen overnight so it is very important that drivers follow the current rules of the intersection for their own safety and others safety. Every driver on the road has a family that they want to come home to.”
