On July 8, 2009, at 11:45 a.m., Thompson RCMP were contacted by members of a civilian search team that skeletal remains had been found in a wooded area just off a hydro power line, east of Thompson.
The area has been secured for further investigation by members of the Thompson RCMP Forensic Identification Section, along with a team of forensic anthropologists from the Heritage Branch of the Provincial Government. Investigation is continuing at this time.
The search team, initiated by Manto Sipi Cree Nation of Gods River, Manitoba, was in the area conducting a ground search for a missing Gods River youth, Christopher Justin James. James was last seen in Thompson on July 3, 2009, after attending to Thompson for medical treatment.
