RCMP have charged 31-year-old Russell George Halkett, Chief of the Barren Lands First Nation, in connection to an assault incident from early last week.
On July 5, 2009 Lynn Lake RCMP Detachment received a complaint from an adult female from the Community of Brochet that she was sexually assaulted. RCMP attended the community and the investigation lead to the arrest of Russell Halkett.
Halkett was released at the time of arrest on a promise to appear with an undertaking to have no contact with the complainant.
The name of the victim will not be released. She was treated and released at the local nursing station.
