On July 14, 2009 at about 8:15 pm, RCMP Selkirk Traffic Services received a report of a single vehicle rollover collision on the North Perimeter Highway, (PTH 101) approximately 1 kilometre north of Highway 15 (Dugald Road).
A 2008 Ford 3/4 ton pickup was traveling north on PTH 101 during a heavy rain fall and it is believed the vehicle started to hydroplane and the driver eventually lost control as corrective actions were being taken. The truck rolled three times into the ditch.
Police, Fire and Ambulance attended the scene. Fire crews extracted both occupants from the truck. The passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Winnipeg, was partially ejected from the vehicle.
Both parties were transported by ambulance to the Health Sciences Centre in stable condition. The driver has since been released from hospital, however, the passenger remains in hospital due to the extent of her injuries.
Investigation revealed the female passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Winnipeg, was wearing his seatbelt.
Weather conditions are considered major contributing factor to this collision.
The investigation is continuing.
