On July 23, 2009 at approximately 10am, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a complaint of a possible break and enter to a residence in the 700 block of Poplar Bay.

The complainant saw some suspicious activity near the house and phoned the police. When police arrived at the house they discovered the house had been broken into. RCMP Forensic Identification Services attended to assist with the investigation. Among various property, the suspects had stolen a vehicle from the garage and had left the area before police could arrive.

The stolen vehicle was seen driving near Treherne and reported to police. Police made patrols and located the vehicle on Long Plain First Nation. Portage la Prairie RCMP and Treherne RCMP members attended and recovered the vehicle with one suspect inside. Two males ran from the vehicle into the woods, however police were able to apprehend them a short time later. The vehicle was recovered, as was various property that was reported stolen from the residence. A firearm was recovered from the suspects as well. 

Two of the suspects are youth males and the third is an 18-year-old man of Brandon, MB. The three were held in custody and appeared in court on Monday, July 27, 2009 to face various charges including break, enter and theft, possession of a weapon and careless use of a firearm.  

The incident is still under investigation.
